چکیده

Molecularly-mixed composite membranes (MMCMs) incorporating amorphous scrambled porous organic cages (ASPOCs) are a rapidly emerging membrane class that characterized by the formation of solid solution due to high degree homogeneity is not observed in other classes polymer-particle composites. Molecular-level mixing overcomes many performance/processing issues typically encountered with two phase materials. However, chemical stabilization polymer matrix can deactivate ASPOC cages. Here, we illustrate an alternative method crosslinking Matrimid® MMCMs using copper catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction. We fabricated thin film and benchmarked them crossflow permeation system standard styrene oligomers dissolved variety solvents as well exemplar solvent reverse osmosis separation. found presence increased both permeance dimer separation factor up 79% 154%, respectively, over crosslinked Matrimid depending on solvent, although decreased at higher loadings. The were challenged solvent-solvent modality able effectively purify toluene from triisopropylbenzene. This work provides experimental observations needed understand mass transport processes occurring highlights their performance scale-up potential.

Salt cleaning of organic-fouled reverse osmosis membranes.

Cleaning of organic-fouled reverse osmosis membranes with concentrated salt solutions has been investigated. Polysaccharides (alginate and pectin) and Suwannee River natural organic matter were used as model organic foulants. By systematically varying the chemical and physical factors affecting salt cleaning efficiency, we were able to elucidate the processes and mechanisms involved during salt...

Removal of assimilable organic carbon and biodegradable dissolved organic carbon by reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF), under various solution chemistries, on bacterial regrowth potential as quantified by assimilable organic carbon (AOC) and biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC). The bench-scale experiments, using tap groundwater spiked with acetate as organic carbon, revealed that AOC remo...

Composite Polyamide Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membranes – Recent Developments and Future Directions

Thin Film Composite – Polyamide (TFC-PA) are commonly used reverse osmosis (RO) membranes in water desalination and waste water applications. Their poor chlorine tolerance and fouling characteristics constrain the life and performance leading to stringent chemical pretreatment requirements. In this context, development of fouling resistant and chlorine tolerant RO membranes would be relevant to...

Performance and Structure of Thin Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membranes Prepared by Interfacial Polymerization in the Presence of Acid Acceptor

During interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction between m-phenylenediamine (MPDA) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC), a by-product, i.e. hydrochloric acid can produce. This produced acid diffuses back in aqueous phase and protonates MPDA and reduces its reactivity that results in lowering of polymer yield and performance of membrane. Further, for getting consistency in reverse...
